Cameron Green's Recovery Progress Amid IPL Challenges
Cameron Green's Injury Update
On Monday, Cricket Australia (CA) announced that all-rounder Cameron Green, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), is on the mend from a lower-back injury. He is currently focused on gradually increasing his bowling workload, with hopes of returning to full fitness in approximately 10 to 12 days.
KKR's Struggles in IPL 2026 Opener
In their opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, KKR faced a disappointing six-wicket defeat against the Mumbai Indians (MI), who have won the championship five times. The absence of injured Indian pacer Harshit Rana and the Rs 18 crore acquisition, Sri Lankan bowler Matheesha Pathirana, left KKR's bowling attack lacking. Zimbabwean Blessing Muzarabani, along with pacers Vaibhav Arora and Kartik Tyagi, failed to pose a significant threat, allowing MI to chase down a target of 221 runs with five balls remaining. Cameron Green, the franchise's most expensive player at Rs 25.20 crores, managed only 18 runs off 10 balls and did not bowl.
Insights from Cricket Australia on Green's Condition
When questioned about Green's absence from bowling, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane suggested that inquiries should be directed to Cricket Australia. A spokesperson from CA clarified, as reported by ESPNCricinfo, that Green is managing a lower-back injury that necessitates a brief hiatus from bowling. They confirmed, "Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to returning in around 10-12 days' time. KKR has been communicated with and is fully aware of this information."
Cameron Green's Recent Bowling Performance
Throughout the T20 World Cup, Green struggled, accumulating only 24 runs in three innings, with a top score of 21. He bowled just three overs in the tournament, claiming one wicket. In a recent Sheffield Shield match for Western Australia against New South Wales (NSW), where he scored a century, he did not bowl at all. In the T20I series against Pakistan leading up to the World Cup, he bowled four overs across two matches, taking just one wicket. During the 2025/26 Ashes series, he managed only four wickets, bowling 61.5 overs across five matches and nine innings, with an average of 70.75. Heading into the IPL, Green had limited bowling experience, having taken 30 wickets in 71 T20 matches at an average of 34.50, with best figures of 3/35.
Upcoming Matches for KKR
KKR's next challenge will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 2 at Eden Gardens.
