Significant Appeal for Golden Temple's Safety

Gurjeet Singh Aujla, the Member of Parliament from Amritsar, has made a crucial request to the Prime Minister regarding the security of the Golden Temple. He has proposed that Amritsar be designated as a 'No-War Zone' and has communicated this in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Similarly, former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Gurudaspur MP, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has also reached out to Modi with a similar request. Randhawa expressed on social media that he has urged the Prime Minister to declare Sri Amritsar Sahib as an international 'No-War Zone.'

The Importance of the Golden Temple

Randhawa emphasized that Sri Harmandir Sahib is not just an ordinary site; it embodies the spirit of Sikhism and stands as a symbol of peace. He stated that protecting the sanctity and dignity of Sri Amritsar Sahib is a collective responsibility, hoping that the central government will view his appeal not through a political lens but as a means to safeguard a symbol of peace. Aujla highlighted that the urgency of this request has increased following claims made by a Major General of the Indian Army, who stated that the Pakistani Air Force attempted to target the Golden Temple. This assertion has raised concerns within the global Sikh community.

A Call for International Protection

The MP reiterated that the Golden Temple is the holiest site for Sikhs, attracting millions of devotees from around the world. He has called for a permanent and non-political security arrangement for the temple, akin to that of Vatican City. Furthermore, he has requested the United Nations to grant international recognition and protection to this sacred site. Aujla stressed that this location should be kept free from any military or political objectives in the future, asserting that the Golden Temple is a symbol of global peace and its security is a shared responsibility of both India and the international community. He urged that this demand be taken seriously and implemented promptly.
