Valmiki Community Delegation Meets Himachal Pradesh Governor

A group from the All India Valmiki Mahasabha in Chamba District, led by President Mukesh Kumar, convened with the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Kavindra Gupta, in Dalhousie today. The delegation included members from the Valmiki Charitable Society, Valmiki Dalhousie Youth Club, and various community leaders.

During their discussion, the delegation presented a memorandum expressing their profound concern regarding a recent incident in Barnala, Punjab. Reports indicate that unarmed Valmiki community members faced a police lathi-charge, resulting in injuries to several individuals, including women. The representatives denounced the event as 'extremely deplorable,' emphasizing that such actions instill fear and insecurity within society.

The memorandum called for a thorough and impartial investigation, specifically requesting a CBI probe to reveal the facts and ensure accountability for those involved. The delegation also raised concerns about the targeting of the Valmiki community in these incidents.

Community members in Chamba have echoed these sentiments, demanding severe penalties for those responsible for the violence.

Governor Gupta attentively listened to their grievances and assured the delegation that their concerns would be communicated to the relevant authorities for further action.
