Call for Bottled Water Supply in Indore Amid Contaminated Water Crisis
BJP Leader Advocates for Safe Drinking Water
In light of recent fatalities linked to contaminated drinking water in Indore, former legislator and BJP leader Sardar R.P. Singh has urged the Delhi government to provide bottled water to residents. Singh communicated this recommendation in a letter to Pravesh Sahib Singh, the water minister of Delhi.
As a spokesperson for the BJP and a former MLA from the Rajendra Nagar constituency in the national capital, Singh suggested that the supply of free bottled water could be funded through advertisements on the bottles and an app for booking safe drinking water.
He emphasized that despite efforts to repair water pipelines, the risk of contamination from sewage lines and other sources remains a constant concern. Singh stated, 'Providing bottled water will ensure that residents have access to clean drinking water.'
Additionally, he pointed out that the water supplied by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is often further purified at homes using reverse osmosis (RO) systems. However, he noted that low-income families are at risk as they cannot afford expensive RO machines and are left relying on unsafe drinking water or bottled water from private manufacturers, which may not meet quality standards.
