California Man Arrested After Shooting Attempt Near White House Event
Shooting Incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Cole Tomas Allen, the individual charged with firing shots near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, had previously shared numerous critical posts about former President Donald Trump and his administration on social media, as reported. The California resident was apprehended following the shooting attempt at the Washington Hilton on Saturday. His posts on the platform Bluesky reveal a consistent critique of the Trump administration. Under the username "Coldforce," which also appears in a document referred to as a manifesto, he expressed strong disapproval of various government policies, including U.S. support for Ukraine. In one of his posts, he disparaged Vice-President JD Vance, labeling him "a piece of sh-t" for his remarks regarding the cessation of support for Ukraine.
Allen also referred to Trump as "a sociopathic mob boss" and condemned a temporary ceasefire agreement with Iran, characterizing it as a capitulation. He reacted to an AI-generated image shared by Trump portraying himself as Jesus Christ, reposting messages that questioned how one could support the administration while adhering to Christian values. One of his reposts stated: "I’m not sure that you can work for this admin and be any flavor of genuine Christian believer… without understanding… that you are f–king damned." Authorities revealed that Allen sent a written document to family members shortly before the attack, in which he identified himself as "Coldforce" and articulated his beliefs. He wrote, "Turning the other cheek is for when you yourself are oppressed; turning the other cheek when someone else is oppressed is not Christian behavior; it is complicity in the oppressor’s crimes." The document also contained apologies "to everyone whose trust [he] abused."
Authorities noted that the suspect had reserved a room at the hotel, allowing him to enter without undergoing the same security checks as attendees entering the ballroom. He later attempted to pass through a magnetometer checkpoint and opened fire before being subdued by law enforcement. Interestingly, the suspect commented on the security measures in a document found after the incident, stating, "If I was an Iranian agent, instead of an American citizen, I could have brought a damn Ma Deuce in here and no one would have noticed s–t. The one thing that I immediately noticed walking into the hotel is the sense of arrogance… I walk in with multiple weapons and not a single person there considers the possibility that I could be a threat."
Allen is reported to be an alumnus of the California Institute of Technology and has experience as a teacher and independent game developer. Officials confirmed that he was intercepted by law enforcement before reaching the main ballroom and was subsequently taken into custody. Prosecutors have indicated that he is likely to face charges, including using a firearm during a violent crime and assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon. The investigation into the incident and Allen's motives is still ongoing.
