Calcutta High Court Resolves TMC Petition Against ED's Actions
Court Ruling on TMC's Allegations
The Calcutta High Court has addressed a petition filed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The party claimed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had seized files and election-related data during recent raids linked to the Indian Police Association (IPA). Furthermore, the court postponed the hearing on a petition submitted by the ED, as the agency indicated that a similar petition had already been filed in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the ED's petition regarding this matter on Thursday.
During the proceedings, the ED categorically denied seizing any data related to the TMC and questioned how the agency could be asked to safeguard materials that were never in its custody.
ED's Position on Data Security
The central investigative agency further stated that if the issue was solely about ensuring the security of data, it would support such requests. However, it clarified that the disputed data was not taken by the ED but was instead taken by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself.
The High Court was hearing petitions filed by both the ED and TMC concerning the recent raids conducted by the ED at the IPA's premises and the residence of its director, Pratik Jain. The ED emphasized that the raids had no connection to the Trinamool Congress.
The TMC had sought court protection for its election-related data, alleging that it had been seized by the ED.
