Court Issues Stay on Office Demolition

On Sunday, Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), received a favorable ruling from the Calcutta High Court. The court has prohibited the demolition of his office located in Amtala, South 24 Parganas district, and instructed all parties to maintain the status quo until the next hearing, scheduled for the end of July. Justice Raja Basu Chaudhary issued this directive, also requiring the West Bengal government to submit all documents related to Banerjee's office.

Reports indicate that the office is owned by the company 'Leaps and Bounds'.

Legal Challenges and Ownership Details

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has stated that Abhishek Banerjee serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 'Leaps and Bounds'. The court has ordered that the demolition proceedings concerning the building on Diamond Harbour Road be paused until the end of July, with a regular bench set to hear the case again. 'Leaps and Bounds' had previously challenged the demolition action in the High Court.

According to a senior official, the South 24 Parganas district administration initiated the demolition process for Banerjee's office on Saturday. The administration claims that the building was allegedly constructed without an approved building plan and in violation of applicable regulations. Banerjee, asserting that the office serves as his constituency office, stated on Saturday that it was legally built on purchased land and that all necessary permits were obtained.
