Silchar, Oct 15: In a major operation, Cachar Police confiscated 2.3 lakh Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth ₹57.5 crore, and apprehended two individuals after stopping a truck with a Nagaland registration in the Udharbond region of Assam.
According to Cachar Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das, the drugs were seized during a naka operation on the Udharbond bypass in the Panch Mile area, based on intelligence gathered over the last few months.
Das stated, “This marks the largest drug seizure in terms of black market value for the Cachar district police.”
The arrested suspects hail from Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh and Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, as reported by the SP.
“Following the NDPS protocols, a search revealed the tablets hidden in a secret compartment within the truck,” Das added.
Authorities are currently probing the origin of the shipment, its intended destination, and the broader network involved in the interstate drug trafficking.
Investigators are also tracing the financial aspects to uncover where the tablets were sourced and who funded the operation.
This operation was the result of extensive intelligence work aimed at intercepting the shipment before it reached its target.
This arrest follows a previous incident where Cachar Police seized heroin and suspected Yaba tablets valued at ₹14 crore in two separate operations last month.
In one of those operations, heroin worth ₹13 crore was seized, leading to the arrest of Abdul Rahim Laskar from French Nagar in Lailapur, with the truck reportedly coming from Champhai district in Mizoram.
In another raid, police detained 23-year-old Jairul Islam from Bhoirabpur Part-I, under Kalain police station, recovering around 10,000 suspected Yaba tablets weighing approximately 1.309 kg and valued at ₹1 crore from a red carry bag he was carrying.
