Building Collapse in Northeast Delhi: Rescue Operations Underway

Building Collapse in Welcome Area
A four-story building collapsed in the Welcome area of Northeast Delhi on Saturday morning, raising concerns that several individuals may be trapped under the debris, according to police reports. Authorities stated that multiple agencies are engaged in rescue efforts. An official mentioned, "We received information about the building's collapse at 7 AM. Seven fire engines and various teams are currently working at the site, assisted by local residents who are helping to clear the rubble. Three to four individuals have been transported to the hospital, and there are fears that more people are trapped."
Previous Incident in Azad Market
Earlier, a building collapse near Azad Market in North Delhi resulted in the tragic death of one person. This incident occurred around 2 AM in a structure located in the Tokri Walan, Pul Mithai, and Bara Hindu Rao area. The collapsed building housed three shops on the ground floor—numbered 5A, 6A, and 7A—selling bags and canvas materials, with warehouses on the first floor.
Emergency Response and Casualties
According to police reports, the collapse was reported to the Bara Hindu Rao police station via a PCR call around 1:55 AM. The Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Centralized Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulances, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and crime teams were promptly notified and dispatched to the scene for rescue and relief operations. Rescue teams successfully recovered a body from the debris, identified as Manoj Sharma, also known as Pappu, approximately 45 years old. He had been employed at Gulshan Mahajan's shop number 7A for the past 30 years. Unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival at Hindu Rao Hospital. No other injuries have been reported so far.
Investigation into Causes
A truck parked in front of the building sustained significant damage due to the incident. Authorities suspect that ongoing metro construction nearby may have contributed to the collapse, although investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause.
