Tragic Incident in South-West Delhi

In a shocking incident on Sunday afternoon, a multi-story building in the Satya Niketan area of South-West Delhi collapsed unexpectedly. So far, one fatality has been confirmed, and rescue operations are ongoing as many individuals are feared trapped under the debris.

Building Used as Student Accommodation

Reports indicate that the collapsed structure was being utilized as a paying guest accommodation for students. Given its proximity to Delhi University's South Campus, a significant number of students resided there, raising concerns about the possibility of students being trapped in the rubble. However, the exact number of individuals trapped has not yet been officially confirmed.

Emergency Response Initiated

The Delhi Fire Service received alerts about the collapse around 1:30 PM. Emergency teams, including firefighters, police, and other rescue agencies, quickly arrived at the scene to commence rescue efforts. Multiple fire engines have been dispatched to the site, and teams are carefully removing debris to locate those trapped inside.

Casualties and Injuries Reported

According to the latest updates, one person has died, and several others have been hospitalized with injuries. Various reports have indicated differing numbers of individuals rescued, so the final tally will only be clear once the rescue operation concludes.

Chief Minister Inspects the Scene

Upon learning of the incident, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the site to oversee the rescue operations. She stated that teams from the DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS, and Civil Defense are collaborating on the rescue efforts.

Investigation into Building's Condition

Initial reports from the Delhi Police suggest that the building was approximately 40-50 years old. It reportedly had a basement and upper floors, and was being used as a PG accommodation. There are indications that repair work was ongoing in the basement at the time of the incident.

Currently, the rescue teams are prioritizing reaching individuals trapped beneath the rubble. Rescue workers are meticulously clearing heavy debris to search potential locations. Ambulances and medical assistance are also available at the site.
