BSF on High Alert in Jammu's Marh Region

As 2025 approaches, the Border Security Force (BSF) is on high alert along the international border in the Marh area of Jammu. Despite the dense fog and severe cold, the force remains committed to securing the northern frontier. BSF personnel patrolling the area reported that they are equipped with all necessary tools to prevent infiltration, even in challenging winter conditions. A BSF officer stated that while they face numerous challenges, they are well-prepared to tackle them with essential gear such as raincoats, cold-proof jackets, and a 24/7 alert system. They are ready to confront any infiltrators under any circumstances.

Challenges of Night Patrols

Echoing similar sentiments, another BSF officer highlighted the difficulties of conducting night patrols in extreme cold, where fog blankets the area, reducing visibility. However, he emphasized that they are equipped to handle such situations. The officer noted that the nights can be extremely cold and foggy, making visibility a challenge. Nevertheless, their patrols continue, supported by equipment that aids in visibility, ensuring that they face no significant issues.

Operation 'Cold Breeze' Ahead of Republic Day

In preparation for the Republic Day celebrations, the BSF is set to launch 'Operation Cold Breeze' in the rugged terrains along the Kashmir border and critical security checkpoints in Jammu, as well as in the vast desert areas of Rajasthan adjacent to the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control (LoC). This operation aims to detect potential infiltration attempts, particularly as infiltrators may exploit the low visibility caused by dense winter fog.

According to BSF officials, this operation is scheduled to commence at an appropriate time next month and will continue until the end of January. The primary goal is to enhance border security during this crucial period leading up to the Republic Day celebrations. 'Operation Cold Breeze' is an annual winter security exercise conducted by the BSF along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan, covering challenging terrains in the Kashmir region, key security checkpoints in Jammu, and the Thar Desert, including significant portions of the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC).
