A horrifying incident has sent shockwaves through the community as a 19-year-old college student was violently murdered in broad daylight in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, on Monday morning, raising alarming questions about public safety. The victim, Siya Guleria, was the daughter of Joginder Kumar and lived in the village of Nain, located in the Sarkaghat subdivision. She was en route to her classes at Degree College Sarkaghat when the attack occurred.


Reports from law enforcement indicate that the tragedy unfolded around 9:30 am as Siya was walking towards the Gopalpur bus stop, where she was supposed to meet a friend. Approximately one kilometer from her home, she was confronted by a hooded assailant who concealed his identity.


The attacker, wielding a sickle, first struck her arm, causing her to collapse. He then delivered a fatal blow to her neck, resulting in her immediate death before fleeing the scene. The sheer brutality of this act, occurring in broad daylight, has left the local community in a state of shock and fear.


Authorities have identified the suspect as Rishu Patial, a 32-year-old resident of Thiro village in Sarkaghat tehsil. He is believed to have ancestral ties to Dodra Rakhoh and had been residing at his maternal home in Thiro for several years. Initial reports suggest that he may have struggled with substance abuse.


After the incident, local residents promptly notified the police, who quickly dispatched teams to the scene and secured the victim's body. Senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police and Assistant Superintendent of Police, arrived in Sarkaghat to oversee the investigation.


In a rapid and coordinated response, law enforcement, with the assistance of local residents, initiated a manhunt and located the suspect in the Fatehpur forests near Sarkaghat. He was apprehended within hours of the attack. Sources indicate that villagers who participated in the search confronted the suspect, overpowering him before handing him over to the police.
