A Shocking Crime in Phula Pahadi Village

Keonjhar: In a shocking display of violence, a 58-year-old widow was brutally murdered in Phula Pahadi village early Wednesday morning. The victim, identified as Tulasi Majhi, was attacked by Debadutta Naik, a local man, who allegedly held a grudge against her family. Reports suggest that the motive behind this horrific act may be linked to past enmity stemming from the alleged religious conversion of Tulasi's family.

The incident unfolded around 6 AM when a villager, Barial Majhi, was on his way to his farmland and witnessed the attack. Debadutta confronted him with a spade, prompting Barial to flee for his life. Meanwhile, Tulasi was in her courtyard when Debadutta entered her home and assaulted her with the weapon, ultimately beheading her.

Following the incident, the frightened villagers chose to remain indoors. The police, acting on a complaint from Tulasi's daughter, Duli Majhi, have initiated an investigation and registered a case (143/25). They have seized the murder weapon for forensic analysis. Despite attempts to gather information from the villagers, many have remained silent. Patana police station's IIC, Manas Mahakud, confirmed that Debadutta has been apprehended, but the precise motive for the murder is still under investigation. Notably, Tulasi's husband, Kade, was previously killed by villagers during a kangaroo court session five years ago after he converted to a different religion.
