Brush Fire Erupts in Carson City, Prompting Emergency Response
Emergency Response to Brush Fire
On Wednesday, the Carson City Fire Department, along with sheriff’s deputies, responded to a brush fire located at the intersection of North Edmonds Drive and the 2100 block of Gentry Lane, situated on the western slope of Prison Hill. The fire department received the alert at 10:15 AM after a significant column of smoke and flames was spotted in the vicinity. Initial reports from firefighters indicated a rapidly spreading fire covering approximately half an acre, driven by strong winds, and posing a threat to nearby structures.
As the situation developed, the fire continued to advance up the hillside, prompting the establishment of containment lines. Aircraft have been deployed to assist in firefighting efforts. Authorities are advising all drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area to facilitate the movement of fire engines. Currently, there have been no reports of evacuations. Fire engines from surrounding firefighting units and hand crews are actively engaged at the scene. Flames have approached the Fairview Drive area, leading to a temporary closure of the roadway at Fairview and South Edmonds, which has since been reopened as of 10:57 AM. However, Gentry Lane remains closed, and access to the Fifth Street trailhead is restricted.
