New Delhi. During the closing session of the two-day 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, member and partner nations strongly condemned all forms of terrorism. The forum emphasized the need for a united, coordinated, and robust global response against all terrorists and terrorist organizations designated by the United Nations. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla highlighted this historic consensus, stating that the unanimous declaration reflects the BRICS nations' firm and collective resolve to eradicate terrorism.
Significance of the Joint Declaration
In his address at the closing session, Om Birla described the joint declaration as a significant symbol of mutual cooperation and shared perspectives among member nations. He reiterated India's long-standing belief that sustainable solutions to the world's complex issues arise not from conflict but through continuous dialogue, emphasizing that peace and collaboration should take precedence over war and competition. He particularly stressed the importance of accommodating the aspirations of the 'Global South' in decision-making processes. India's goal is not to stand against anyone but to foster inclusive development by bringing all countries together.
Commitment to UN Principles
The Lok Sabha Speaker noted that the declaration reaffirms commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, including the sovereign equality of all nations, mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, and peaceful resolution of international disputes. Furthermore, the declaration emphasizes the enhancement of parliamentary cooperation and the use of digital technology. While addressing the prevailing global instability and economic uncertainties, he extended best wishes to China, which is set to assume the BRICS presidency in 2027.
