The duo was caught red-handed while demanding money from a complainant, who had faced delays in processing applications. Following a sting operation, the authorities recovered the bribe amount and initiated an investigation into potential illicit assets linked to Behera. This case highlights ongoing issues of corruption within government offices in the region.

Corruption Exposed in Dhenkanal


Dhenkanal: On Wednesday, the Odisha Vigilance team apprehended Sashi Bhusan Behera, a Revenue Inspector from the Gandanali Circle in Hindol Tahasil, along with his accomplice, Bishnu Ballav Khatua. They were caught accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 related to a mutation case.


The two were caught in Behera's office while they were demanding and receiving the bribe from a complainant. Behera had been stalling the complainant's applications concerning four different mutation cases, insisting on Rs 15,000 for each case to provide favorable reports. After facing continuous harassment, the complainant decided to report the matter to the Vigilance authorities.


In response to the complaint, Vigilance officials set up a sting operation, successfully catching Behera and Khatua in the act. The entire bribe amount of Rs 60,000 was recovered and documented as evidence. Following this operation, searches were conducted at three locations associated with Behera to investigate any potential illicit assets.


A formal case has been initiated under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 13/2025, in accordance with Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on both Behera, the government official, and Khatua, the private intermediary.
