Brendan McCullum Prepares England for Upcoming Test Series Against India

England's Confidence Ahead of the Test Series
Brendan McCullum, the head coach of England, believes that India has arrived well-prepared and confident for the five-match Test series. He emphasized that the players are fully aware of their aspirations as a Test team.
The series will kick off on June 20 in Leeds, marking the beginning of India's new World Test Championship cycle.
McCullum's Insights on India's Challenge
In an interview with a sports channel, McCullum stated, 'India is a fantastic cricketing nation that has come here with high expectations, and we are ready for their challenge.' Recently, England completed a clean sweep against the West Indies in a six-match white-ball series and is now shifting its focus to the red-ball format as they prepare for India and the Ashes later this year.
Injury Concerns for England's Bowling Attack
McCullum highlighted the importance of keeping players fresh, acknowledging the team's goals as a Test unit. However, England will be without fast bowler Mark Wood, who is sidelined due to injury for at least the first three Tests. Fellow fast bowler Jofra Archer will also miss the initial matches, while Gus Atkinson is recovering from a hamstring strain. Despite these setbacks, McCullum expressed confidence in the available bowling options.
Strength in England's Bowling Options
The former New Zealand captain remarked, 'While some of our top fast bowlers won't be available, we have a strong and diverse attack with Chris Woakes, Sam Cook, Brydon Carse, Jamie Overton, and Josh Tongue.' He also mentioned the spin department, praising Shoaib Bashir for his consistent improvement in Test cricket. McCullum acknowledged the challenge posed by India, who will come fully prepared.
India's New Era Without Key Players
India will embark on a new chapter without seasoned players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and R. Ashwin, all of whom have retired from Test cricket. The team will be led by Shubman Gill, featuring young talents such as Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
England has reintroduced all-rounder Jacob Bethel into the squad, and McCullum praised the 21-year-old's potential.
He stated, 'Bethel has a long career ahead of him. At just 21, he has the opportunity to showcase his talent and has already made his mark in the dressing room.' McCullum also highlighted Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett, comparing them to the successful pairing of Duckett and Zak Crawley in Test matches.
