Brave Soldier from Himachal Pradesh Martyred in Cross-Border Firing

Tragic Loss of Subedar Major Pawan Kumar
In a heartbreaking incident, Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, aged 48, who served in the Indian Army and hailed from Shahpur in Kangra district, was killed during intense cross-border firing by Pakistani forces in the Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
The ceasefire breach took place in the early hours of Friday, May 9, 2025, when Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked attacks on Indian forward positions.
Serving with the 25 Punjab Regiment, Subedar Major Kumar was at the forefront, leading his unit's defensive efforts when he sustained fatal injuries while courageously responding to the aggression, as reported by military officials.
Military sources indicated that Indian forces retaliated effectively to the ceasefire violation; however, Subedar Major Kumar tragically succumbed to his injuries while valiantly defending the nation.
Community Mourns the Loss
The news of his martyrdom sent shockwaves through his hometown of Siholpuri village in Shahpur, where a profound sense of grief enveloped the community. Residents mourned the loss of a courageous soldier who was also a highly respected figure among them.
Subedar Major Kumar was only two months away from retirement. He is survived by his father, Garjo Singh, a retired Havildar, his wife Sushma Devi, son Abhishek Kumar, who is currently preparing for competitive exams, and daughter Anamika, a college student.
The Indian Army has officially notified the family, leading to emotional scenes as villagers, former servicemen, and local leaders gathered at the martyr's residence to pay their tributes. Despite their sorrow, the family expressed immense pride in his sacrifice, and preparations are being made for his final rites with full military honors.
