Tragic Loss of Lance Naik Manish Kumar

SHIMLA: Lance Naik Manish Kumar, hailing from Baraban village in the Nahan subdivision of Sirmaur district, tragically lost his life due to a landslide in North Sikkim. The 27-year-old, serving with the 3 Dogra Regiment, died while on duty near Chhatte around 7:30 PM on Sunday, June 1, 2025.


The news of his martyrdom was confirmed by Major Deepak Dhawan (retd), Deputy Director of the Sainik Welfare Board, who noted that the area had been experiencing severe flooding and landslides recently. At the time of the incident, Manish was engaged in disaster relief and monitoring efforts.


“Manish made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our nation under extremely difficult circumstances,” Major Dhawan remarked, expressing concerns about potential additional casualties among the troops deployed in the region. Born on January 15, 1998, Manish joined the Army in 2016 and had recently married just three months prior. His sudden passing has left the community in mourning.


Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conveyed his condolences through a social media message, stating, “The news of Lance Naik Manish Kumar's martyrdom during his duty in Sikkim is profoundly saddening. I pray for peace for his soul and strength for his family to cope with this immense loss. My heartfelt sympathies are with the grieving family.”


Manish is survived by his wife Tanu Devi, mother Kiran Bala, and father Joginder Singh. The local community and his family are heartbroken over the loss, and arrangements are being made to receive his remains, which are anticipated to arrive by Monday evening or Tuesday.
