Arrest Warrant Issued for Aiyuk

An arrest warrant has been issued for Brandon Aiyuk, a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, in Northern California due to a misdemeanour charge linked to alleged speeding. The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office confirmed on Wednesday that Aiyuk is wanted for the exhibition of speed, although they did not disclose additional details regarding the case.

Court documents reviewed by a media outlet indicate that the issue originated from a video uploaded to Aiyuk's YouTube channel in December. The footage allegedly depicted the 28-year-old driving a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing at speeds surpassing 100 mph on Santa Clara roads. Notably, the vehicle was recorded reaching 104 mph near Levi's Stadium, the home ground of the 49ers. Following backlash on social media, Aiyuk expressed remorse and stated that his "car content won't come with speeding anymore!"

Despite his apology, the Santa Clara Police Department initiated an investigation into the matter. The case was subsequently forwarded to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office on January 15. Reports indicate that Aiyuk's representative has not yet responded to requests for comments.

Drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the 49ers, Aiyuk has become a significant offensive player for the team over his first four seasons. In August 2024, he signed a lucrative four-year contract extension valued at $120 million. However, his tenure with the franchise has faced challenges due to injuries. Aiyuk sustained a knee injury seven games into the 2024 season and has not participated in any NFL games since. In January, 49ers general manager John Lynch remarked that the relationship with Aiyuk had deteriorated, suggesting that "it's safe to say he's played his last snap as a 49er." The team has reportedly considered trading the receiver, and in April, it was reported that San Francisco had difficulty contacting him, complicating negotiations with other teams.
