BPF to Contest BTC Elections Independently, Claims Confidence in Winning

In a recent meeting, Hagrama Mohilary, the leader of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), declared that the party will contest the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council elections independently. He expressed confidence in winning at least 25 seats and criticized rival Pramod Boro of the UPPL for his political maneuvers. Mohilary also condemned UPPL's job announcements as lacking financial backing, calling them a deceptive tactic. As the political landscape heats up, all major parties in the ruling NDA are preparing to go solo, marking a significant shift in Assam's electoral dynamics.

BPF's Independent Stance for Upcoming BTC Elections

Chirang, June 9: During a significant meeting of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) held in Nichima Block of Amtek, Chirang district, party leader Hagrama Mohilary announced that the BPF will participate in the forthcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections without any alliances. He emphasized the party's commitment to contesting all 40 constituencies independently.

Mohilary stated, "We are not in alliance with any party. We are optimistic about securing at least 25 seats this time. From the outset, we have maintained that BPF will fight alone, and we intend to uphold that. Others should be aware of this too. If you ask Pramod Boro if he can run solo, he won't provide a clear answer because he is covertly negotiating with both BJP and Congress. What sort of politics is that?"

He further criticized Pramod Boro, the chief of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) and BTC Chief Executive Member, suggesting that Boro is under internal pressure and facing political turmoil.

“Pramod is now distressed. He understands he cannot manage alone. We have previously won elections, and we are prepared to do so again. We have only lost once, and this time we will return even stronger,” Mohilary remarked.

A key point of discussion at the meeting was Mohilary's harsh critique of UPPL's recent job announcements. He accused the UPPL of promoting job openings that lack financial backing from the Assam government's finance department, labeling it a “political maneuver to extract funds” from aspiring candidates.

“The job postings by UPPL are fraudulent. There is no financial sanction for them. While various departments may have vacancies, how can salaries be disbursed without financial approval? These positions are unpaid and merely a ruse to mislead candidates and siphon off money,” he asserted.

In the meantime, all three major parties within the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA)—BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and UPPL—are preparing to contest the upcoming elections independently.

The BJP has already announced candidates for all 40 BTC constituencies, while the AGP confirmed on May 28 that it will independently contest 10 seats.

UPPL has also indicated that it is ready to go solo if necessary. Historically, no single party has won BTC elections without forming alliances.
