BPF Chief Hagrama Mohilary to Contest BTC Elections from Kampa Borgoyary's Constituency

BPF's Election Strategy Unveiled
Chirang, June 27: Hagrama Mohilary, the leader of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), has declared his intention to run in the forthcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, specifically from the constituency represented by Kampa Borgoyary.
During a press briefing on Friday, Mohilary stated, “Although the elections are still some time away, I am committed to contesting from Kampa Borgoyary’s constituency.”
This announcement was made at an event where approximately 60 individuals from various political factions, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the United People’s Party – Liberal (UPPL), and the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), were officially welcomed into the BPF.
Mohilary noted that many youth leaders from UPPL are feeling disenchanted with their party and are now choosing to join the BPF.
He also pointed out that the Gorkha community has been overlooked during the current UPPL administration in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
In a related comment, TMC State Youth Vice President Daniel Lakra mentioned that numerous TMC volunteers, motivated by the principles and values of the BPF, have opted to change their political allegiance. He criticized BPF chief Pramod Boro for not fulfilling the promises made during the 2020 BTC elections.
Mohilary expressed strong confidence in his party's prospects, asserting that the BPF is well-positioned for the upcoming BTC elections.
“All major political parties, including BJP, Congress, AIUDF, BPF, and UPPL, will participate in the BTC elections. However, the BPF’s strength is greater than that of UPPL, Congress, and even the BJP. We are optimistic that the BPF will win the most seats,” he stated during the press conference.
He further emphasized that the residents of the BTR are dissatisfied with the UPPL's governance and are eager for a change.
“The UPPL has not met expectations over the past five years. The public is disillusioned and desires effective governance. The BPF has a history of 17 years in power. Although we did not succeed in 2020, the electorate in BTR is prepared to reinstate us in governance,” Mohilary concluded.
As the BTC elections approach, shifts in party loyalties and volunteer support are becoming increasingly evident.
