Immediate Suspension of Secretary General

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has taken the decision to suspend Pramod Kumar from his role as Secretary General, effective immediately, as per the federation's constitution.

On Wednesday, the BFI, led by its president, made the announcement via an Instagram post, citing Clauses 24(xvi) and 24(xxxvi) of its governing rules.

The official statement from the BFI confirmed the suspension, emphasizing that it was enacted under the specified constitutional powers.

India's Remarkable Performance at the Asian Games

This suspension follows a remarkable achievement by the boxing team, which secured India's highest medal tally at the Asian Games, winning three golds and three bronzes during the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Games.

Gold medals were clinched by Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda, and Ankush Panghal, while Kapil Pokhariya, Narender Berwal, and Priya Ghanghas brought home bronze medals.

Lovlina Borgohain's Historic Achievement

On her 29th birthday, Lovlina triumphed over China's Ziyi Bao with a decisive 5-0 victory in the women's 75kg final.

This win marked a significant milestone as she became only the second Indian woman, after Mary Kom, to secure an Asian Games boxing gold, upgrading her previous silver medal from Hangzhou.

Parveen Hooda's Notable Victory

Parveen Hooda achieved a remarkable victory by defeating Chen Nien-Chin of Chinese Taipei, a former world champion and bronze medallist from the Paris 2024 Olympics, with a close score of 3-2 in the women's 65kg final.

Ankush Panghal Completes the Gold Sweep

Ankush Panghal finalized the gold medal sweep for India by winning the men's 80kg final against South Korea's Kim Min-seong with a 4-0 split decision.
