Boxing Federation of India Suspends Secretary General Amid Investigation
Immediate Suspension of Secretary General
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced the immediate suspension of Secretary General Pramod Kumar, pending a comprehensive investigation into allegations of procedural misconduct, evasion of official oversight, and administrative overreach.
Details of the Suspension Order
On October 13, 2026, BFI President Ajay Singh signed the formal suspension order, citing multiple reasons that necessitated urgent action to protect the federation's interests and facilitate an unobstructed inquiry.
Reasons for Disciplinary Action
The suspension follows Kumar's lack of response to a formal Show Cause Notice and a subsequent extension notice, as detailed in a press release from the BFI.
Allegations Against Pramod Kumar
The suspension order highlights critical issues that require immediate attention.
Financial Mismanagement
The BFI has received unexpected financial claims from an external broadcasting agency related to a major tournament. These claims were based on a work order issued under Kumar's personal credentials, which he concealed from the President, Finance Committee, and other relevant authorities. This action significantly exceeded Kumar's financial authorization limits, putting the federation at risk of substantial liabilities.
Lack of Cooperation and Unauthorized Actions
Additionally, Kumar has repeatedly failed to cooperate with notices from an Inquiry Committee investigating the abrupt cancellation of a national championship. The BFI noted that he issued unauthorized cease-and-desist notices to senior officials, attempted to unlawfully convene meetings for a no-confidence motion against the President, and initiated public media campaigns aimed at disrupting the administration and damaging the federation's reputation.
Conditions of Suspension
"You are hereby placed under interim suspension from the office of Secretary General with immediate effect, pending the completion of the inquiry or until the order is modified or revoked by the competent authority, in accordance with the BFI Constitution," the order states.
The federation clarified that this suspension is a temporary protective measure and does not imply a final judgment on the allegations, which will be thoroughly examined under appropriate procedural safeguards.
During the suspension, Kumar is prohibited from performing any official duties, using BFI communication channels or letterheads, or accessing official records related to the ongoing investigations, while being expected to fully cooperate with the Inquiry Committee.
