Railway Deaths Reported by Central Railway
The Central Railway has reported to the Bombay High Court that there have been 453 fatalities on railway tracks in the first five months of 2025. This affidavit was submitted following directives from the court. Through lawyer Anamika Malhotra, the Central Railway indicated that the primary causes of these deaths were encroachments, crossing tracks, and falling from local trains. Data revealed that in 2025, 293 individuals lost their lives while crossing tracks, and 150 died after falling from moving trains. In comparison, the previous year, 2024, saw 674 deaths while crossing tracks and 387 fatalities from falls.
