Bomb Threats Prompt Evacuations at Two Delhi Colleges
Bomb Threats Cause Panic at Delhi Colleges
On Wednesday morning, two colleges affiliated with Delhi University received bomb threats via email, leading to widespread panic. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and local police were promptly deployed to the sites. The latest email in a series of threats was sent around 1:59 AM to Ramjas College and Deshbandhu College.
According to Raja Banthia, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), the principal of Ramjas College reported the threat early in the morning, prompting immediate anti-sabotage checks by the BDS and local law enforcement. Similar investigations were conducted at Deshbandhu College. So far, no suspicious items have been discovered, and the identity of the individual who sent the threatening email remains unknown.
An official from Ramjas College stated that around 10 AM, they checked the email and quickly instructed staff and students to evacuate the premises. Students were safely escorted out, and police were called in. Ajay Arora, the principal of Ramjas College, mentioned that practical exams were scheduled for Wednesday, but upon receiving the bomb threat, they decided to clear the college and send students home.
Rajendra Pandey, the principal of Deshbandhu College, indicated that they were awaiting clearance from the bomb disposal team before proceeding with any activities.
On November 20, five schools in Delhi also received emails warning of bomb explosions, leading to evacuations and searches, which were later deemed false alarms. Just two days prior, four district courts in Delhi and two schools operated by the Central Reserve Police Force received similar threats, resulting in halted proceedings and evacuations. On October 28, over 200 schools in Delhi were similarly threatened via email, prompting extensive searches that were ultimately declared unfounded.
