Bomb Threat Prompts High Alert at Kolkata Airport

Security Alert at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport

On Tuesday afternoon, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata was placed on high alert. This action was taken after an anonymous caller reported a bomb on the Kolkata-Mumbai IndiGo flight No 6E5227, prompting officials to ensure the safety of passengers.

The alarming call was received after passengers had already checked in for the flight, which was scheduled to depart at 1:30 PM and arrive in Mumbai at 4:20 PM. Following emergency protocols, all 195 passengers were evacuated from the aircraft, which was subsequently moved to an isolation area, according to an airport official who wished to remain unnamed. The official further noted, 'Luggage has been removed from the plane, and bomb squad personnel are currently inspecting the aircraft. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has heightened security measures throughout the airport.'

Recent Surge in Bomb Threats at Airports

This incident marks the second bomb scare at an Indian airport within a week, coinciding with the commencement of Operation Sindoor by Indian armed forces targeting terrorist groups in Pakistan earlier this month.

Previously, on May 6, Mumbai airport also received a bomb threat concerning an IndiGo flight arriving from Chandigarh, which was later determined to be a false alarm.
