Bomb Blast Near Congress Leader's Residence in Manipur

Imphal, Sept 4: A suspected hand grenade detonated near the residence of Keisham Meghachandra Singh, the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), in Thoubal district, as reported by local police.
The explosion occurred at approximately 8:15 pm on Thursday, close to the entrance of the Congress legislator's home located in Yairipok Bishnunaha, under the jurisdiction of Yairipok police station. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
According to a statement from the CLP leader's public relations officer, the blast is believed to have been caused by an explosive device thrown by an unidentified individual. The motives and identity of the assailant remain unknown.
Authorities suspect that the explosive was hurled by an unknown perpetrator near the legislator's residence.
Following the explosion, law enforcement quickly arrived at the scene and initiated a search operation in the vicinity.
Local women from Yairipok Bishnunaha expressed their outrage over the incident. A leader from the Meira Paibi, a women's organization, stated, “We strongly condemn the bomb blast in our residential area. Such violent acts are intolerable, especially as our community has faced hardships in recent years.”
The leader further demanded that those responsible for the explosion provide an explanation within 24 hours and urged them to refrain from similar actions in the future.
Keisham Meghachandra Singh, who represents the Wangkhem Assembly constituency in Thoubal district, previously held the position of president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee before taking on the role of CLP leader.
