Bodoland University Scholar Wins Prestigious International Award
Recognition for Innovative Research
Kokrajhar, Jan 7: A scholar from the Botany Department at Bodoland University has achieved significant recognition by winning the esteemed MUNA MedLife Award for Best Oral Communication during the recent Mediterranean Union Annual Meeting in Naples, Italy.
Bhoirob Gogoi received this accolade for his presentation titled, “Microbial and Biostimulants Assisted Phytoremediation of Nitro-PAHs: A Microcosmic Study.”
This research emphasizes sustainable and eco-friendly methods for addressing the contamination caused by nitro-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitro-PAHs) using plants, microbes, and biostimulants.
The findings highlight the importance of microbial-assisted technologies in enhancing soil health and fostering long-term environmental sustainability, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
By proposing innovative, nature-based strategies to combat environmental pollution, this study significantly contributes to the fields of environmental biotechnology and remediation.
The research was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Hemen Sarma, the Head of the Botany Department at Bodoland University, whose mentorship played a crucial role in the project's success.
Prof. Sarma, recognized among the top 2% of scientists worldwide, expressed pride in Gogoi’s achievement, noting that such international accolades highlight the increasing global influence of high-quality research from Bodoland University.
The MUNA MedLife Award honors researchers who exhibit excellence in scientific communication, originality, and innovation. This recognition is a significant milestone for both Bodoland University and the broader scientific community in the region.
Gogoi’s international success underscores the strength and potential of Indian research in tackling global environmental issues through sustainable and nature-based solutions.
Members of the Bodoland University academic community have congratulated Bhoirob Gogoi and Prof. Hemen Sarma on this remarkable achievement, which is anticipated to motivate young researchers to engage in impactful research with international significance and societal relevance.
