Road Development Initiatives Launched

Chirang, Jan 16: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), led by the BPF, has commenced a significant series of road development initiatives in Chirang district, aimed at enhancing rural connectivity and infrastructure.

Paniram Brahma, an Executive Member of the BTC, inaugurated the foundation stones for five new roads within the Kajalgaon Council constituency, with a total funding of Rs 6 crore sourced from the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). Each of these roads will extend over one kilometre.

The roads being developed include Bartalowa, Padmapur, Dangtal Amguri, Nilibari, and Dhaligaon–Gaujonpuri.

While four of the roads will be constructed at a budget of Rs 1 crore each, Brahma noted that the Dhaligaon–Gaujonpuri road will receive a larger allocation of Rs 2 crore.

In a media briefing, Brahma emphasized that these development projects align with the promises made by the Bodoland People’s Front during the previous BTC elections, under the guidance of BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary.

He assured that the council would persist in addressing the vital needs of the community in the future. “Since taking office as BTC Chief, numerous long-standing issues have been tackled, and development activities have accelerated in the area. Within just three and a half months, the construction of several roads has already commenced,” Brahma stated.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the BTC administration is dedicated to fulfilling the five-point commitments announced by Mohilary, which encompass providing land pattas, creating job opportunities for unemployed youth, bolstering self-help groups, and ensuring the welfare of senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.

The foundation stone-laying event was attended by the Sub-Divisional Officer of the Public Works Department, various departmental officials, party members, and local residents.
