BPF Announces Candidates for Upcoming Elections

Guwahati, Mar 20: The Bodoland People's Front (BPF), part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has revealed its candidates for 11 constituencies in the forthcoming Assam Assembly elections. This list includes the party's sole minister currently serving in the government and the spouse of the party leader.

On Thursday night, BPF president Hagrama Mohilary announced the nominees shortly after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) disclosed their candidate selections.

Mohilary expressed strong confidence in the party's prospects, stating, “BPF will contest 11 seats, and with BJP’s four seats in the area, the NDA will secure all 15 seats. I am completely confident.”

Cabinet minister Charan Boro, who has served two terms as an MLA, will run from Mazbat, while senior leader Rabiram Narzary will contest from Dotma.

In a significant development, Mohilary’s wife, Sewli Mohilary, is set to make her electoral debut as the candidate for Kokrajhar.

Notably, Durga Das Boro, one of the party's three sitting MLAs, has been excluded from the candidate list.

Former MLAs Rihon Daimary (Udalguri), Thaneswar Basumatary (Manas), Maneswar Brahma (Baksa), and Maheswar Boro (Bhergaon) have also been nominated.

Rezaul Karim, who recently joined the BPF and is a former president of the All Assam Minority Students' Union, will contest from Parbotjhora.

Additional candidates include Sabharam Basumatary (Gossaigaon), Rupam Roy (Baokungri), and Paniram Brahma (Sidli Chirang).

The elections are set for April 9, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.
