The Congress party has appointed senior leader BK Hariprasad as the new president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), succeeding DK Shivakumar. This change in leadership occurred just hours after Shivakumar took the oath as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka, ensuring a smooth transition of power within the state.

Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah resigned from his position on Thursday after being asked to step down by the party's high command.

On Thursday, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar congratulated BK Hariprasad on his appointment as the KPCC president. In a post on X, Shivakumar expressed his heartfelt congratulations, stating that with Hariprasad's extensive political experience and deep understanding of the organization, he believes the Congress party will become even stronger and more united in Karnataka under his leadership. He wished Hariprasad success in this significant role and hopes for the party to reach new heights in the coming years.

Additionally, Hariprasad has been nominated as the Congress candidate for the upcoming state legislative council elections. This decision was announced by AICC General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal, who stated that the Congress president has appointed BK Hariprasad as KPCC president with immediate effect. The statement also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing PCC president, DK Shivakumar.

An experienced organizational leader, Hariprasad has previously overseen party operations in several states. Currently, he is in charge of Congress in Haryana but will soon step down from this role due to his new responsibilities in Karnataka. He also wished Hariprasad success in strengthening the Congress party and raising awareness among the state's citizens against opponents of democracy, while praising Shivakumar for his effective leadership of the state Congress party.
