BJP Welcomes New Members from Various Backgrounds in Guwahati

Grand Joining Ceremony in Guwahati
Guwahati, July 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hosted a significant joining ceremony at its state headquarters on Thursday, welcoming numerous new members from a variety of political and professional spheres.
Notable figures among the new entrants included Manoj Rabha (also known as Dristi Rajkhowa), former Assam BJP president Manoj Dhanowar, ex-president of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union Arjun Chetri, Pradesh Congress vice president Madhurjya Goswami, Raijor Dal state general secretary Nirmal Payeng, advocate Manas Sharania, and former Nagaon District Congress president Prashanta Saikia. Additionally, many individuals from social, political, academic, and cultural sectors joined the BJP.
Dilip Saikia, while welcoming the new members, stated, “I am BJP. Regardless of whether I leave the party or it parts ways with me, my identity remains tied to it.”
He also took a jab at the Opposition, remarking, “Arjun Chetri has joined today because he recognizes where the real opportunities lie. Nirmal Payeng, who previously aligned with Akhil Gogoi, found it challenging to collaborate with him and opted for the BJP for a brighter future.”
Saikia commended Dhanowar for his contributions in Tinsukia, where he manages a residential school with over 2,000 students. “Of these, 1,400 reside in the hostel, supported by 45 cooperative groups. His team also aids 60 underprivileged children,” he noted.
After the event, Samaguri MLA Diplu Ranjan Sarmah defended the state's eviction initiatives. “Evictions are essential for the development of state resources. These actions were taken even during Gopinath Bordoloi’s era. Following our eviction drive in Kaziranga, there has been a significant reduction in rhino poaching,” he explained.
Sarmah also criticized opposition leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi, stating, “The moment Lurinjyoti supported Congress during the Bhawanipur bypolls, he lost all public respect.”
Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka further accused Congress of being involved in conspiracies against Assam. “The anti-Assam strategies we encounter today can be traced back to Congress’s politics post-Independence. It has proven to be a party that thrives on communal division. The recent visit by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge was merely an attempt to incite unrest,” he alleged.
