Kolkata, May 7: Authorities reported that a supporter of the BJP was brutally murdered in the English Bazar area of Malda district, West Bengal, as confirmed by police on Thursday.

The tragic event occurred late Wednesday night in the Gadua More locality of Ward No.1 within the English Bazar Municipality.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Kishan Haldar.

According to family members, Kishan received a call on Wednesday night, prompting him to leave home, but he never returned.

His remains were discovered in the Baganpara region of Maheshpur, approximately 500 meters from his residence, with a large knife found near the body.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Kishan was killed with a cleaver. Reports indicate that two of his friends sustained injuries during the incident. Several individuals, including his neighbor Golam Halder and his son Suman Halder, have been implicated in the case.

Despite the circumstances, the BJP has asserted that this is not a politically motivated murder, claiming it stemmed from a local dispute among youths. It has been reported that Kishan had a disagreement with Golam and Suman Halder. As of now, police have apprehended two suspects linked to the case, who were taken into custody earlier today.

The BJP further stated that the accused individuals do not have any political ties.

Following the incident, both central forces and local police were dispatched to the scene, leading to heightened tensions in the area. The body has been sent for an autopsy.

It is important to note that since the announcement of the West Bengal Assembly election results on May 4, there have been numerous reports of violence across the state. Incidents have included assaults on Trinamool Congress members, vandalism of party offices, and destruction of campaign materials. BJP supporters have also faced attacks, resulting in injuries. Authorities have pledged to take strict action against those involved in such violent acts.
