New Delhi, Aug 18: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revamped its national leadership team under President Nitin Nabin, introducing several new members alongside notable figures such as former Union Minister Smriti Irani, who has taken on the role of General Secretary, and Ram Madhav, a former RSS leader, now serving as Vice-President.
The party claims to have struck a balance between youthful energy and seasoned experience, retaining key veterans like Vasundhara Raje Scindia, the former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, who has been appointed as one of the 13 Vice-Presidents.
Out of the 65 office-bearers announced, 51 are newcomers. The age distribution includes six individuals under 40, 15 between 40 and 49, and 21 in the 50 to 59 age range. The new team also features 12 women and six representatives from minority communities, reflecting the party's strategic planning for upcoming Assembly elections through 2029 and the next general elections.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been designated as the National Treasurer, following in the footsteps of his father, Ved Prakash Goyal, who held the same position during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee administration.
Goyal stands out as the sole Union Minister included in the new leadership lineup.
BL Santhosh has been retained as National General Secretary (Organisation), a crucial role within the party.
Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has also joined the ranks of the eight National General Secretaries, with six being new appointments, as per the party's announcement.
New Vice-Presidents include Lok Sabha MP D Purandeshwari and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat.
Among the newly appointed General Secretaries are BJP MP and former Rajasthan unit president Satish Poonia, Lok Sabha MP Gajendra Patel, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Bhatia, and ex-MP Harish Dwivedi, who is currently overseeing the party's political operations in Assam.
Amit Malviya has been replaced as head of the IT department by Deepak Mhaskey from Chhattisgarh.
Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal are the only two National General Secretaries retained in the new structure, recognized for their significant organizational contributions, particularly Bansal's role in the BJP's success in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
Tarun Chugh, a Rajya Sabha MP, has been appointed as the central office in-charge, succeeding Arun Singh.
The number of Vice-Presidents has increased from 11 to 13, with nine new members. The total count of National General Secretaries has risen to eight from seven, while the new team comprises 16 National Secretaries, up from 11 previously.
In addition to Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Baijayant Jay Panda, Rekha Verma, and Tariq Mansoor have been retained as Vice-Presidents.
Nabin has also replaced all National Morcha Presidents, appointing Hemang Joshi from Gujarat as the new Yuva Morcha President, taking over from MP Tejasvi Surya.
Roop Kumari Choudhary from Chhattisgarh has succeeded Vanathi Srinivasan as the Mahila Morcha President, while Amarpal Maurya from Uttar Pradesh has been named OBC Morcha President, replacing Rajya Sabha MP K Laxman.
New Vice-Presidents include Varshaben Narendrabhai Doshi from Gujarat, Bharti Pravin Pawar from Maharashtra, Sardar Manpreet Singh Badal from Punjab, Lal Singh Arya from Madhya Pradesh, M Nagaraja from Karnataka, and Madhuchandra Kar from West Bengal.
