BJP Renominates Hitendra Nath Goswami for Jorhat Assembly Elections
BJP's Strategic Move in Jorhat
On March 19, in Jorhat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to re-nominate Hitendra Nath Goswami as its candidate for the Jorhat Assembly seat, anticipating a competitive electoral battle ahead.
This decision aligns with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's previous statement about fielding a candidate who embodies the essence of a 'common man' from Jorhat.
Party officials have highlighted Goswami's humble lifestyle and strong connection with the local community as key attributes. Despite his status as a seasoned politician, he continues to reside in his family home, which reinforces the party's message of accessibility and simplicity.
In response to his nomination, Goswami expressed his appreciation for the party's trust and reiterated his dedication to Jorhat's development.
"I am grateful to the party for this opportunity to serve again. My focus will be on advancing the initiatives started under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's leadership," he stated.
Goswami outlined his vision for the constituency, emphasizing the importance of organized urban development and the continuation of existing projects.
"If re-elected, I plan to enhance Jorhat as a well-planned city. Over the next five years, we can complete ongoing projects and introduce new ones," he added.
He identified improving market infrastructure as a top priority for the town.
"We are in the process of establishing two new vegetable markets. Land identification and soil testing are already underway, as the lack of adequate market facilities has been a challenge for vendors and residents," he explained.
Goswami also discussed the progress of commercial infrastructure projects.
"Development work at Chowk Bazaar is ongoing, and we aim to have it operational for shopkeepers by December. Furthermore, a dedicated women's market near Doss & Co is expected to be completed this year," he mentioned.
In terms of urban beautification, he highlighted plans to revitalize the Bhogdoi river.
"My goal is to improve the aesthetics and management of the Bhogdoi. Although it is a daunting task, we have already begun efforts similar to those undertaken in Toklai," he remarked.
The MLA acknowledged the state government's support in carrying out development initiatives.
"Many projects we initiated faced skepticism initially, but now the public is beginning to recognize their value. I appreciate the ongoing support from the Chief Minister," he noted.
Politically, Goswami expressed confidence in his chances for re-election, despite the anticipated challenge from Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi.
"Ultimately, elections are determined by the electorate. I believe my direct interaction with voters and strong grassroots presence give me an advantage. I am optimistic about winning this time," he asserted.
He differentiated between the previous Lok Sabha elections and the forthcoming Assembly elections, stating, "The Lok Sabha elections had a different context, where there was a sentiment favoring a young leader. This time, the dynamics have shifted."
