BJP Protests Erupt in West Bengal Following Attack on Suvendu Adhikari
Protests Sparked by Alleged Attack on BJP Leader
Kolkata: On Sunday, BJP supporters organized protests across West Bengal in response to an alleged attack on the Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, purportedly by supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The demonstrators called for the swift arrest of those responsible, claiming there was a plot to assassinate the BJP leader by igniting his vehicle.
In Medinipur city and Sonamukhi in Bankura, BJP activists blocked roads and set tires ablaze, expressing their outrage over what they termed a significant security failure.
Chants against the state government echoed through the protests, with calls for severe punishment for the perpetrators.
Adhikari reported that he was assaulted by TMC supporters in the Paschim Medinipur district on Saturday.
He initiated a sit-in at the Chandrakona police station, demanding immediate action against those involved.
In a post on X, he recounted the incident, stating, "Around 8:20 PM, while returning from Purulia on Chandrakona Road, I was brutally attacked by TMC goons."
He alleged that the attack occurred in front of police officers who did nothing to intervene, framing it as an attack on all dissenting voices in the state.
Authorities confirmed that an investigation is underway, with plans to review video evidence to corroborate the claims and identify the attackers.
