BJP Poised for Major Victory in Ahmedabad Municipal Elections
BJP's Strong Performance in Local Elections
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation elections are showing a significant lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Current trends indicate that the party is ahead in 95 out of the 190 seats it contested, reflecting a strong performance in these local elections. In contrast, the Congress party is only leading in nine seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and other parties have yet to secure any wins. Voting took place for 192 seats across 48 wards, with the BJP already winning two seats—Vasna and Thaltej—uncontested. The elections saw a robust presence of major political parties, with the BJP fielding 190 candidates and Congress nominating 185. AAP entered the race with 151 candidates. During the scrutiny process, a significant number of nominations, totaling 877, were rejected, and 22 candidates later withdrew their nominations.

Prominent leaders also participated in the voting process. Union Home Minister Amit Shah cast his vote at booth number 38 in the Narayanpura sub-zonal office, accompanied by his family, including his son Jay Shah. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also exercised his voting rights in Ahmedabad.
Recap of 2021 Elections
In the previous AMC elections held in 2021, the BJP achieved a remarkable victory, winning 159 out of 192 seats. The Congress secured 25 seats, while the AIMIM won 7, and an independent candidate claimed one seat. The BJP has maintained control over this municipal body since 2005. These local elections were part of a larger electoral campaign that took place across Gujarat on April 26, involving 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats. A total of 9,992 candidates participated, making it one of the largest local elections in the state. Authorities implemented extensive measures to ensure peaceful voting, with the state election commission establishing robust security at nearly 48,000 polling stations. The electoral contest in Ahmedabad has become a competitive battle among several parties, including the BJP, Congress, AAP, and AIMIM, all vying for power.
