BJP's Stance on NEET Paper Leak Controversy
BJP Member of Parliament Raghav Chadha accused the opposition on Monday of politicizing the NEET exam paper leak issue and exploiting students' emotions for political gain. During a debate in the Rajya Sabha on the 'Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026', he emphasized that this controversy is not merely between the BJP and Congress, but rather a battle between merit and corruption, as well as hard work versus manipulation.
Chadha urged political parties to refrain from using student protests for their agendas and advocated for institutional reforms to address the paper leak issue. He stated that just as cancer cannot be treated with mere painkillers, the solution to the paper leak problem lies not in media statements but in institutional measures. Our government is set to introduce India's first 'Anti-Paper Leak Framework' to tackle this issue.
The BJP leader praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for addressing students' concerns in both his roles as a Prime Minister and a guardian. He welcomed the government's decision to establish fast-track courts for serious crimes, including paper leak cases, asserting that students' voices matter. When students expressed their concerns and requested that the Prime Minister listen to them not just as a leader but as a parent, he responded like a family head. Fast-track courts are designated for serious offenses, such as crimes against women, rape, and POCSO-related crimes. Today, we have classified paper leaks among these serious offenses.
In his remarks to the opposition, Chadha noted that while political memory may be selective, public records are not. He stressed that the concerns of NEET students should be regarded as valid as those of students affected by paper leaks in opposition-ruled states. He further questioned how a paper leak in a national examination could be considered a national crisis, while a similar incident in an opposition-ruled state is merely a local issue. If the pain of NEET students is genuine, then the distress of students from the pharmacy exam in Punjab and the SSLC exam in Karnataka is equally real.
