Political Turmoil Within TMC
On June 11, BJP Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey asserted that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is on the verge of dissolution. He indicated that the ongoing political upheaval within the party would clarify the situation in the coming days. Speaking to a news agency in Deoghar, Jharkhand, Dubey referenced his previous comments regarding the future of Mamata Banerjee's party, suggesting that the rapid political changes would soon reveal the truth. He stated, "Every word spoken in Baba's city turns out to be true. We will have more information in a day or two."
TMC's Internal Conflicts
These remarks come amid significant discord within the TMC, characterized by numerous resignations, allegations of factionalism, and public disagreements among senior leaders. A recent incident involved senior TMC MP and lawyer Kalyan Banerjee publicly criticizing the party's national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, over a legal matter, accusing him of displaying an "arrogant attitude." Kalyan Banerjee issued an ultimatum to TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, demanding that she choose between him and his nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. He also announced that he would no longer handle legal matters on behalf of Abhishek Banerjee.
Resignations Continue in TMC
In the ongoing wave of resignations from the Rajya Sabha, TMC MP Prakash Chik Barik also stepped down on Wednesday. Following Sushmita Dev and Sukendu Shekhar Ray, he became the third TMC MP to resign from the upper house within a week. Meanwhile, rebel TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed that a group of 20 MPs sought separate seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha and expressed support for the NDA. However, TMC Lok Sabha MP Pratima Mandal denied any connection to this alleged move, challenging the rebel faction to present any documents bearing their signatures, reaffirming her loyalty to the party, and stating that they would remain with the Trinamool Congress until 2029.
