BJP MP Criticizes Parliament Proceedings Over Unpublished Book Controversy

Parliamentary Proceedings Halted by Controversial Book

On Wednesday, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey expressed that the proceedings in Parliament have been disrupted due to a book that has not been published anywhere. He urged the Speaker to allow discussions on published books so that the public can learn about events prior to 2014. Dubey mentioned to reporters that these are books that, while published, are banned in India. He reiterated that the current parliamentary session is stalled because of this unpublished book.

Call for Discussion on Historical Context

Dubey further stated that he has requested the Speaker, as he did in Parliament, to facilitate discussions on published books, emphasizing that the public deserves to know the narrative before 2014, which many are unaware of. He believes that such discussions in Parliament would expose the Gandhi-Nehru family. A significant uproar occurred in the Lok Sabha on Monday when opposition leader Rahul Gandhi referenced unpublished memoirs of former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane.

Congress Critiques Government's Actions

Following this, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra harshly criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing it of obstructing parliamentary proceedings. She claimed that the government disrespects both the Speaker and Parliament, asserting that the opposition leader Rahul Gandhi represents the entire opposition. The Wayanad MP remarked to reporters outside Parliament that Dubey is only brought forward when the government seeks to create disruptions. She pointed out that while the government does not allow any member to quote from published books, Dubey has managed to bring six books into the house and quote from them. This, she argued, demonstrates the government's intent to control parliamentary discourse.

Historical Leadership Decisions Under Scrutiny

The Congress MP also noted that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi never hesitated in making decisions. She accused the current government of diverting public attention by raising issues related to Nehru, especially after General Naravane made comments about national leadership. She questioned whether Indira Gandhi ever shied away from making decisions, asserting that such governance is not sustainable. The actions taken today, she claimed, indicate that only the government's agenda will prevail in the house, preventing the opposition leader from speaking. This is a serious issue that everyone should recognize, marking a rare instance where the government appears unwilling to allow the house to function.
