BJP MP's Remarks on Congress and Arrests
BJP Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey has criticized the Congress party for opposing the arrest of activist Sonam Wangchuk in connection with the recent violence in Leh. Dubey took a jab at Congress by recalling the actions of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the Emergency, referencing the arrests of senior BJP leader Vijaya Raje Scindia and former Andhra Pradesh Governor Bhim Sen Sachar. He stated to a news agency, "You talk about upholding the Constitution? Yet in 1975, Rajmata Scindia, a founding member of the BJP and the Queen of Gwalior, was arrested, and the Income Tax Department conducted raids. She and Gayatri Devi were imprisoned in a death cell in Tihar Jail, which lacked even basic toilet facilities. You claim to support women's empowerment?"
The BJP MP further alleged that there is a "foreign power" behind Wangchuk's actions, asserting that Prime Minister Modi fulfilled the demand for Union Territory status for Ladakh. He remarked, "Today, you are discussing Wangchuk. People have died in Ladakh. Wangchuk initially sought Union Territory status; now, following the involvement of a foreign entity, they are demanding statehood. Congress has done nothing in the last 30 years, while Prime Minister Modi granted you Union Territory status. An investigation is underway."
Dubey continued by highlighting the arrest of 82-year-old Bhim Sen Sachar, a freedom fighter and former governor, who was reportedly dragged away by police. He questioned Congress's commitment to democracy, suggesting that the party should apologize to the nation. Earlier today, Dubey shared a post on social media, accusing Congress of shedding "crocodile tears" for those arrested following the violence in Leh. He wrote, "Indira Gandhi had the Queen of Gwalior and founding member of the BJP, Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia, imprisoned in a death cell in Tihar Jail, where there were no toilet facilities."
He expressed disbelief that a freedom fighter and former governor, Bhim Sen Sachar, was subjected to police brutality and jailed at the age of 82 for merely writing a letter. He concluded by stating that the same Congress is now feigning concern for those arrested after the violence in Ladakh.
