BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma Honors Virbhadra Singh While Criticizing Current Government

On the birth anniversary of Virbhadra Singh, BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma paid tribute to the late Congress leader, highlighting his legacy and urging current leaders to learn from his commitment to public service. However, Sharma did not hold back in his criticism of the current government led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, raising concerns over the investigation into a high-profile death and questioning the choice of luxury venues for government events. This juxtaposition of admiration and critique paints a complex picture of the current political landscape in Himachal Pradesh.

Tributes to a Political Icon

Dharamshala: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the late Virbhadra Singh, a six-time Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, BJP leader and Dharamshala MLA Sudhir Sharma paid heartfelt tributes to the former Congress leader. Despite his admiration for Singh, Sharma has been vocal in his criticism of the current government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Sharma expressed on social media, “He was not merely an individual but a concept, a significant era. On the anniversary of Raja Virbhadra Singhji, who resides in the spirit of Himachal, I bow in respect.” He emphasized the importance of Singh's legacy, which resonates across generations, urging today’s leaders to draw inspiration from his dedication to public service.

Criticism of the Current Administration

In stark contrast to his tributes, Sudhir Sharma has been critical of Chief Minister Sukhu, accusing his government of mismanagement. Recently, he raised concerns regarding the investigation into the death of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Chief Engineer Vimal Negi, alleging serious oversights. “The investigation team neglected to perform forensic tests on Negi’s clothing, and the pen drive found with his body has inexplicably vanished,” he stated.

Sharma further claimed that several officials involved in the inquiry had taken leave to evade participation, hinting at a possible cover-up. “The discomfort among officials regarding the direction of this investigation is evident. This is why we have persistently called for a CBI inquiry,” he asserted.

Concerns Over Government Spending

Additionally, Sudhir Sharma has criticized the Chief Minister’s choice to hold official events at a luxury hotel in Chandigarh. “Why are numerous government functions being conducted at Hyatt Regency? Who stands to gain from this arrangement?” he questioned, suggesting potential conflicts of interest.

Sharma served as a minister in the Congress government under Virbhadra Singh from 2012 to 2017. He later distanced himself from the Congress party after Sukhu assumed office in 2022, feeling sidelined despite being considered for a cabinet position.
