BJP MLA Ram Pada Jamatia Elected as New Speaker of Tripura Assembly
New Speaker Elected Unopposed
Agartala, March 18: Ram Pada Jamatia, a member of the BJP, has been elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Tripura Assembly, succeeding the late Biswa Bandhu Sen.
Chief Minister Manik Saha put forward Jamatia's name during the Assembly session, which received unanimous approval through a voice vote, with the Opposition remaining silent.
In addition to BJP members, legislators from the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) and the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), both allies of the ruling coalition, also backed the nomination.
Jamatia was escorted to the Speaker's chair by Saha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury, and Congress Legislature Party leader Birajit Sinha.
Upon his election, Jamatia expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, and state chief Rajib Bhattacharjee for the opportunity.
He stated, "I am grateful to all members, including those from the opposition. I will strive to conduct the Assembly's proceedings fairly," during a press interaction.
Jamatia, representing the Bagma constituency in Gomati district, had submitted his nomination for the position on Tuesday.
