During a public outreach initiative in four panchayats of Sundernagar, BJP's Himachal Pradesh chief spokesperson and local MLA Rakesh Jamwal expressed serious concerns regarding the closure of the Bandli Primary Health Centre (PHC) and the state government's handling of social security pensions.
Jamwal accused the Congress-led government of neglecting rural issues, particularly highlighting that pensions for the elderly, widows, and individuals with disabilities have been pending for over six months. This issue was raised during his visit to the gram panchayats of Jaral, Bandli, Badaihan, and Wajeehan.
Residents voiced their frustration over the delays in pension disbursements and the stagnation of local development projects. Jamwal emphasized that these pensions are vital for the financial stability of vulnerable groups, aiding them in covering daily expenses and medical costs.
He stated, “Social security pensions are not merely a government favor; they are essential for ensuring a dignified life for those who rely on them,” and called for the immediate release of the overdue payments along with an explanation for the delays.
Closure of Bandli Health Centre Questioned
Jamwal also addressed the closure of the Bandli health facility, asserting that the Congress government had shut it down after taking office, despite its critical role for the local population.
He noted that the health centre was established under the previous BJP administration to alleviate the healthcare shortage between Nihri and Sunni. Its closure has exacerbated the challenges faced by residents in accessing medical care.
Although the Chief Minister had reportedly indicated that the possibility of reopening the centre would be evaluated, Jamwal pointed out that no action had been taken yet. He urged the state government to prioritize the restoration of the health centre and enhance healthcare services in rural areas.
Describing healthcare access as a public safety issue, he warned that delays in treatment could have dire consequences, especially for elderly patients and those needing urgent care.
Criticism of Government's Development Efforts
The BJP leader further criticized the government for the slowdown in development projects, poor road conditions, and strained healthcare services. He accused the administration of being more focused on political disputes rather than addressing the pressing issues affecting citizens' daily lives.
Questioning Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's governance style, Jamwal remarked that protests in Delhi and Shimla would not solve the challenges faced by Himachal Pradesh. He demanded clarity on when the pending pensions would be disbursed, stalled development projects completed, and closed health facilities reopened.
Allegations Against Congress Regarding Electoral Integrity
Jamwal also took aim at the Congress party for its claims of vote theft and its opposition to the thorough revision of electoral rolls. He criticized the party's inconsistent stance on electoral matters, asserting that political parties should back their allegations with solid evidence.
He emphasized that maintaining accurate electoral rolls is crucial for democracy and insisted that concerns should be based on factual information.
The BJP MLA accused the Congress government of attempting to distract the public from governance issues through political controversies. He also condemned the use of children to promote political figures at official events, arguing that the focus should remain on education and the future of children.
Ongoing Commitment to Address Local Issues
Jamwal concluded that the issues raised during his visits to the four gram panchayats highlight the urgent need for government action. He affirmed that the BJP would persist in advocating for matters related to pensions, healthcare, infrastructure, and rural development, asserting that the ruling party would be held accountable for its performance in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The claims regarding pension delays, the closure of the health centre, and the pace of development were made during Jamwal's outreach program. The government's response to these specific allegations was not included in the provided statement.
