BJP Meeting in Assam to Elect New Legislative Leader
Election of New Leader in Assam Assembly
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened a meeting of its legislative party in Guwahati on Sunday morning to elect a new leader for the Assam Assembly. The individual chosen will head the new state government.
Present at the meeting are Union Minister J.P. Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, serving as central observers and co-observers. Also in attendance are outgoing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP's state unit president Dilip Saikia, along with all newly elected BJP legislators.
Following the election of the BJP legislative leader, approval will also be sought from allied parties, including the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF). Later on Sunday, leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will meet with the Governor of Assam to stake their claim to form the government.
The BJP-led NDA has achieved a two-thirds majority in the state assembly elections, marking its third consecutive victory. Out of 126 assembly seats, the BJP secured 82, while its allies AGP and BPF won 10 seats each.
