Demand for Severe Penalties

Usha Thakur, a legislator from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has advocated for severe punishments akin to Sharia law for those involved in love jihad. Speaking in Indore, she suggested that individuals who violate the law through love jihad should face extreme consequences, including having their eyes gouged out and hands amputated. Thakur emphasized that traditional Islamic law prescribes harsh penalties for such offenders. She noted that criminals involved in alleged love jihad cases in Indore and Bhopal often maliciously claim they are performing a 'virtuous' act.

Call for Action Against Offenders

Thakur stated that if individuals are openly violating love jihad laws, they should be punished according to Sharia, which includes severe measures for thieves, immoral individuals, and those who ruin the lives of others. She further asserted that if such wicked individuals are apprehended by the police, they will not be spared. Their homes and properties would be confiscated, leaving them to wander the streets like beggars. This, she believes, would deter them from committing such monstrous acts.

Formation of Special Investigation Team

Earlier this month, the Madhya Pradesh police established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged love jihad cases in the state. This initiative followed a serious incident in Bhopal involving allegations of a group of men raping college students while concealing their religious identities.
