Political Showdown in Dharamshala

On December 4, 2025, the Zorawar Ground in Dharamshala became a focal point for political discourse as prominent BJP figures, including former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, launched a fierce critique of the Congress-led government under Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The rally, themed around the slogan "Three Years of System Failure, Change the Corrupt Congress Government," marked the three-year anniversary of Congress rule in Himachal Pradesh, which the BJP has characterized as a time of "collapse, corruption, and chaos."

Accusations of Mismanagement

Anurag Thakur, representing Hamirpur, accused the Sukhu administration of engaging in divisive politics and failing to fulfill its promises. He remarked that the government seemed overly attached to power, suggesting that if Congress could not govern effectively, it should resign.

He further claimed that the Congress government had plunged the state into over ₹1 lakh crore in debt while neglecting to contribute to central railway projects, stating, "The Centre allocated substantial funds for railways, yet the state could not manage its share."

Concerns Over Law and Order

Thakur expressed concerns about law and order, stating that the once revered 'Devbhoomi' was deteriorating into a 'crime bhoomi.' He accused the Congress of appeasing certain groups regarding religious infrastructure issues in Shimla, asserting that the government had favored friends in departmental allocations.

He declared that the rally signified the onset of the Congress government's political decline.

BJP's Call for Accountability

BJP state in-charge Shrikanth Sharma began his speech with a traditional greeting and emphasized that the voices of the crowd should reach the Chief Minister's office. He described the Congress's electoral victory in 2022 as a "mistake born out of electoral deception," criticizing the government for failing to uphold its pre-election promises.

Sharma defended Prime Minister Modi against mockery regarding his humble beginnings, highlighting his achievements, including the construction of the Ram Mandir and the abrogation of Article 370.

Further Critiques from BJP Leaders

State BJP president Dr. Rajiv Bindal accused the Congress government of obstructing the progress of BJP workers and halting development projects, labeling the administration as "anti-growth and anti-people."

Sanjay Tandon echoed these sentiments, asserting that the citizens of Himachal Pradesh were ready to remove the Congress government, describing the rally as a "public uprising" against hollow promises of the Congress.

Rising Issues in the State

MP Suresh Kashyap highlighted the state's struggles with drug trafficking, corruption, and gang violence, blaming the Congress for misleading the public with false assurances while increasing the cost of living through higher VAT on essential goods.

Former Speaker Vipin Parmar criticized the government for its confusion and alleged misuse of central funds, stating that the BJP's mission was to oust the current administration.

A Show of Strength

The rally saw participation from former ministers, MPs, MLAs, and numerous party officials, with the large turnout being interpreted as a sign of public discontent with the state government.
