BJP Condemns Mamata Banerjee's Decision

The President of the Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), N. Ramachandra Rao, expressed strong disapproval on Wednesday regarding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's refusal to resign following her party's recent electoral defeat.

Rao argued that Banerjee's decision disrespects the will of the people and undermines the democratic framework of the nation. Speaking to a news outlet, he stated that her refusal to step down is a blatant affront to the public's decision and the entire democratic structure of the country. According to Article 172 of the Constitution, a Chief Minister's term is limited to five years, while Article 164 grants the Governor the authority to appoint a new Chief Minister based on the majority in the assembly. Rao emphasized that Banerjee is currently holding a constitutional position, yet she is disrespecting it. This defeat reflects the people's choice.

BJP National Spokesperson Joins Criticism

BJP's national spokesperson, C.R. Keshavan, also criticized Banerjee's stance, labeling it a severe betrayal of democratic principles. He accused her of undermining constitutional values and breaching public trust. Keshavan remarked, "Malicious behavior and derogatory statements are a grave betrayal of our democratic principles. This is a direct assault on our constitutional values and a serious violation of public trust and mandate."

Keshavan Highlights Banerjee's Authoritarian Attitude

Keshavan further indicated that Banerjee's comments reflect her authoritarian mindset, which has characterized her 15 years of chaotic governance. He pointed out that this is precisely why the people of West Bengal have ousted her from power. He clarified that Banerjee has no constitutional right to remain in office after her term ends. It is widely known that the assembly's term concludes on May 7, and she has no legal grounds to stay in her position. Keshavan also noted that Banerjee has obstructed judicial officials from fulfilling their democratic duties.
