BJP Leader Ravneet Singh Bittu Shifts Focus to Punjab Elections After Resignation

Chandigarh, July 24 - Following the acceptance of his resignation by President Droupadi Murmu from the central council of ministers, BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu announced on Friday that he will now concentrate entirely on the upcoming elections in Punjab, where his party aims to establish a government in 2027. Bittu is expected to contest the Punjab Assembly elections from Ludhiana in 2027.

On the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the President promptly accepted Bittu's resignation from his role as Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries. Bittu, a prominent Sikh leader within the BJP, revealed that he submitted his resignation on June 21, coinciding with the end of his Rajya Sabha term. He mentioned to a news agency, “During the Jalandhar rally and again on Monday, I requested the Prime Minister to accept my resignation and sought his blessings.”

After nearly 17 years in Parliament, Bittu expressed his desire to serve in the Punjab Assembly. He noted that despite the BJP's loss in the 2024 parliamentary elections, he was still appointed as a minister.
